Lishui University (LSU) is a regional public comprehensive university, tracing its history back to Chuzhou Teacher's School, founded in 1907 to train elementary school teachers. Accredited by the State Ministry of Education of China in May 2010, LSU offers undergraduate education and has been approved as a master's degree granting institution in education, agriculture, and nursing science.

LSU currently consists of 10 faculties, including engineering, mathematics and computer science, music, ecology, teacher education, business, nationalities, medicine and health, Chinese celadon, Marxism studies, and a college of continuing and vocational education. With 46 bachelor's degree programs across various disciplines, LSU caters to nearly 13,000 full-time students and employs 1,100 teaching, research, and supporting staff members.

The university has made significant contributions in preserving local cultural heritage, utilizing biological resources, and preserving the ecological environment.

In response to the internationalization trend in higher education, LSU has proactively sought partnerships and collaborations with universities worldwide. It has established a joint double degree program in nursing science with Gävle University, Sweden, and fostered partnerships with universities in the United States, South Korea, and China's Taiwan province. These efforts have attracted international students and facilitated the global mobility of both faculty and students.
