China Jiliang University is an institution of higher learning featuring metrology, standards, quality, market supervision and inspection and quarantine. The former Hangzhou Metrology School was founded by the State Administration of Metrology in 1978. In 1985, it was upgraded to China Metrology University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2016, it was renamed China Metrology University. In 2019, it became a university jointly built by Zhejiang Province and the State Administration of Market Regulation and a key university in Zhejiang Province. In 2021, after the review of the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council, the University was successfully approved as a doctoral degree-granting unit, and in 2023, it was successfully approved as two postdoctoral research mobile stations in instrument science and technology and optical engineering.

The university has 2 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 15 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 11 professional master's degrees authorized. There are 9 first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province, and 4 disciplines ranked among the top 1% in the world by ESI. There are 18 national first-class majors, 4 national characteristic majors, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, and 9 national engineering education certification majors. There are 24 provincial-level first-class majors, 7 provincial-level advantageous majors, 12 provincial-level characteristic majors, and 5 "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" majors of the Ministry of Education. There are 14 national first-class courses, 7 national excellent courses, national excellent resource sharing courses, and national bilingual teaching demonstration courses. There are 151 first-class courses in Zhejiang Province and 22 provincial-level excellent courses. There are 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 14 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. There is one national talent training model innovation experimental area, one national demonstration engineering degree graduate joint training base, and 15 provincial joint training bases.

The university consists of 19 schools (departments and centers) with a total enrollment of 19,000 full-time undergraduates, 5,400 graduate students and 400 international students. There are nearly 1600 full-time teachers, including more than 700 teachers with senior titles, and 81% of the teachers with doctoral degrees. There are 18 national leading talents and 55 provincial and ministerial talents. There are 1 national Huang Danian teacher team, 1 national teaching team, 1 Huang Danian teacher team in Zhejiang Province, and 6 provincial and ministerial teaching teams. The university has National Quality Inspection Center, Key Laboratory of the State Administration of Market Regulation, International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, National and local joint engineering Laboratory, Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, Zhejiang International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory, Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Laboratory (Engineering Research Center), Zhejiang Provincial New (university) think tank, and Zhejiang Province There are more than 40 research platforms above provincial and ministerial level, such as the 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, and 35 high-level research institutes. In the past five years, the realization rate of undergraduate graduates ranks among the top five key universities in the province. The school is deeply connected with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration and its directly affiliated units and local market supervision and administration departments, and actively undertakes the secretariat of the National Metrological Strategy Advisory Committee. Strategic cooperation with China National Academy of Metrology, China Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, China Research Institute of Testing Technology, Zhejiang Provincial Market Supervision Administration, Hainan Provincial Market Supervision Administration, Anhui Provincial Market Supervision Administration, Shanxi Provincial Market Supervision Administration, Inner Mongolia Market Supervision Administration, etc. There are 9 local research institutes and 19 local technology transfer institutions, and it has been selected as one of China's top 100 universities for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements (the third in Zhejiang). As the leading unit, it jointly initiated the establishment of the "Yangtze River Delta High-level Industry Characteristic University Alliance" with 13 universities.

The University has continued to expand international exchanges and cooperation, established cooperation with more than 80 foreign universities and research institutions, and organized 2 undergraduate education programs and 1 master education program in Chinese-foreign cooperation. It has established the Confucius Institute at Prague University of Finance and Management, the Zhejiang-Czech Silk Road Institute in Prague, the Zhejiang-Czech Cultural Exchange Center, and the Central and Eastern European Research Institute. Led the establishment of the world's first "Belt and Road" standardized education and research university alliance, 121 universities from 36 countries and regions to join. It has built the "Belt and Road" College, with students from 49 countries including Russia, France, Morocco, Mongolia and Uzbekistan, among which the students from countries along the "Belt and Road" account for more than 90%.
