Shandong Jianzhu University (SJU) was founded in 1956 and is located in Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, a famous historical and cultural city. The university has developed into an applied research university focusing on engineering, characterized by the disciplines of civil engineering and architecture, with multi-disciplinary integration and coordinated development of various subjects including engineering, science, management, literature, law, agronomy and art. Covering the land area of more than 160 hectares and the building area of 700,000 square meters, the university consists of 20 schools (departments), 64 undergraduate programs and 4 research (design) institutes, with an enrollment of 27 ,000 full-time students.

The university has strong scientific research strength in the fields of new urbanization construction, building industrialization, green building, smart city, ancient building protection, disaster prevention and reduction, especially in the aspect of green building design and technology, which is at the leading front in China and bears the responsibility of training talents urgently needed by the country. Architecture is listed as a high-level" advantageous and characteristic discipline" construction discipline in Shandong province. Civil engineering,building environment and energy application, urban and rural planning,water supply and sewerage engineering are selected as the provincial high-level application key construction majors. The majors of architecture, civil engineering, electrical engineering and automation,and environmental design have been rated as national characteristic majors.

The university is active to facilitate open education and has established friendly and cooperative inter-university relations with more than 80 universities in more than 30 countries and regions. Four international cooperative educational programs have been launched in civil engineering and architecture with universities in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom. At present, there are foreign teachers and students from more than 30 countries working or studying at SJU. The university actively responds to the Belt and Road Initiative and enrolls international students majoring in civil engineering and business administration from countries along the Belt and Road.

As one of UNESCO cases of green ecological campus, the university attaches great importance to cultural construction, which is specifically reflected in the different types of buildings and museums, such as sculptures of the sages in Chinese history along the architectural cultural corridor and a group of characteristic architectural museums rated as a base for architectural science popularization education in Shandong province, including Exhibition Hall of Building Monolithic Movement Technology，Exhibition Hall of Map and Title Deed for Land , Shandong Folk Residence Exhibition Hall, Railway Construction Exhibition Hall.
