The school has a century-old history and profound cultural heritage. As the first university in China to set up agricultural machinery major and systematically carry out agricultural machinery education, the university adheres to the mission of promoting agricultural mechanization and modernization in China based on Jiangsu Province and the service industry, and has trained the first batch of undergraduate and master's degrees in agricultural machinery and the first doctor and post-doctor in agricultural machinery in China. It has made positive contributions to promoting the increase of farmers' income, agricultural development and rural stability, and has formed the distinctive school-running characteristics and unique cultural feelings of "there are farmers in industry, and strengthen agriculture with industry".

The school has a large scale and excellent operating conditions. It covers 10 disciplines, including engineering, agriculture, science, medicine, management, economics, law, literature, education, and art, and has 98 undergraduate majors. There are more than 2,700 full-time teachers (43% with more than one year overseas experience), gathering a group of high-level talents. There are more than 45,000 students in the university, including more than 14,000 graduate students and more than 2,200 international students with degrees (55% of the graduate students). Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University has more than 11,000 full-time students. The campus covers an area of more than 3,000 mu, with various building areas of more than 1.2 million square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 1.53 billion yuan.
