Talent Cultivation

There are over 19000 undergraduates, 9500 postgraduates, 900 intermational students and more than 87000 distance learning students studying at UPC. University has over 200,000 alumni, including more than 20 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering. as well as a large number of leading talents in the petroleum and petrochemical industry. UPC employment rate has kept over 90% in the past 26 consecutive years. Between 2016 and 2020, 22 programs were admitted as National First-class Programs, and 21 courses were awarded as the first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses.

Scientific Research

UPC is a high-level theoretical and applied research base of petroleum and petrochemical industries and plays a significant role in over 10 research areas globally. It has more than 70 national and provincial key laboratories and research centers including the National Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil and the National Engineering Laboratory of Marine Geophysical Exploration and Equipment. The University attaches great attention to the industrialization of science and research findings, and has founded a National University Science and Technology Park. Between 2016 and 2020, UPC won 10 National Science and Technology awards, obtained over 100 National Nature Science funds each year, attracting grants of CNY 3.16 billion.

Teaching Staff

The university has 1700 full-time teachers, among which there are over 1100 professors and associate professors, and 316 doctoral supervisors. Notably, 12 teachers are elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering; 6 are appointed as leading talents of the "Ten Thousand Talents Plan". There are 3 distinguished professors awarded by the "Yangtze River Scholars Program", 5 winners of National Outstanding Youth Fund, 1 chief scientist of“973 Plan Program", 13 candidates selected in the National Millions Program. 66.5% of full-time teachers are professors or associate professors, and 72% of teachers hold PhD degrees.

International Cooperation & Exchange

UPC actively carries out international academic and cultural exchanges with more than 186 higher education and research institutions from 45 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, etc. The university has about 100 renowned experts and elites acting as part-time professors, honorary professors and vising professors. It is part of the Belt and Road university alliance and promotes substantive cooperation and exchange with allied universities also from the Sino-Europe Engineering Education platforms, the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities, the Sino-ASEAN Education and Training Alliance, and the Northeast Asian University Alliance in the Yellow Sea region, etc. Up to now, UPC has established 6 national "I11 Project" innovation and intelligence bases.
